June 24th, 2010 – Australian renewables target is ‘tweaked’ to differentiate between large and small scale…

In 1997, in the run up to the UNFCCC conference at Kyoto, Australian Prime Minister John Howard was forced to concede the creation of a target for renewable energy as a percentage of overall Australian electricity generation.  Ever since then the incumbent political and economic forces have been at best ambivalent and at worst extremely hostile to what would, on a sensible planet, not even rise to the level of a no-brainer…  We, as a species, have a death wish.  Our wishes will come true.

To promote large scale renewable generators, on 24 June 2010, there was an amendment to the RET by differentiating  between large scale renewable energy target (LRET) such as wind farms, solar plants and geothermal facilities; and also small scale renewable energy target (SRET) such as solar panels and solar hot water systems.
