April 11th, 2001 – Economist eviscerates Australian denialist outfit. 14 years later, it’s still around

John Quiggin, an Australian economist writing in the Australian Financial Review, summed up the “Lavoisier group”.

This body is devoted to the proposition that basic principles of physics, discovered by among others, the famous French scientist Antoine Lavoisier, cease to apply when they come into conflict with the interests of the Australian coal industry.

You can (and should) read the full hilarious take-down here.  Did it “work”? Of course not. Fourteen years later they are still spreading their nonsense.  And where did the money to set them up come from?  You get no guesses…
