March 19, 2001: US Energy Secretary announces gazillions of new power plants

Spencer Abraham, Dubya Bush’s first Energy Secretary, gave  a speech to the US Chamber of Commerce’s National Energy Summit. In part it went

“we also face a real challenge in generating enough electricity to light out homes and run our businesses.  Over the next 20 years, the Department of Energy estimates that electricity demand in the United States will increase by 45 percent.  That rising growth rate will require the construction of over 1,300 new power plants-about 65 every year. “

Thank goodness this didn’t happen, but the fact that we have ‘leaders’ who countenance such things tells you everything you need to know about our ‘civilization’
