On 13th January 1942, Henry Ford patents a plastic automobile, 30% lighter than a regular car.

Context: Hmm, during a war, when private automobile manufacture has been forbidden by Franklin D? Nice timing, Henry… What were you smoking?! Oh, right, maybe hemp

The broader question, of how and when it is possible to do innovation (either ‘incremental’ or ‘radical’) is one to which we will probably (that is, definitely)  return… In the meantime, one of the best papers you can read on innovation is Garud and Karnoe (2003)…
